Toeknee in Long Beach 11/11. Be There!
Hello, hello… hope all is well in your world. Things keep keepin on here in Los Angeles. I’m still in a bit of disbelief that it’s November already. Quote Steve Miller here: “Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin…” You get the idea.Tomorrow, Wednesday 11/11, I’ll be a doing a duo show with my partner in crime, Rod Knee, at Dipiazza’s in Long Beach. Mark Dipiazza was very helpful to our funk/soul group Upstart in the early days in California. He booked us regularly and generally took great care of us. I haven’t played his place in years, and I am quite excited to return.
Upstart family member, Michael Cartwright, will be doing a set of his music before us at 9:30. I’ll be playing drums for him, then grabbing the acoustic guitar and whatever else for some Toe Knee musique.
Hope you can make it. Check the calendar page for more details. Until next time, stay cool.
Toe Knee at Genghis Cohen Monday, October 12 at 9 pm!!!
Howdy… So, finally doing another Toe Knee show at Genhis Cohen. I love that place! Really great band helping me out that night. Hope you can make it. I’ll be debuting a couple new tunes as well. See you there.Benjamin Lears Songs Online!
Yo. Thanks for stopping by the site del Knee. Hope you’re doing well wherever you are reading this from in the Universe.I attended a lecture by Bryan Eno last night. It was quite insightful and enjoyable. Wish you could have been there.
I recorded the drums and percussion for a real cool EP by Ben Lear. Ben’s a very talented writer, and has a great ear for music. His music has elements of the Beatles, Beach Boys, Stereolab, Neil Young, you know…good shit! Check it out at myspace.com/benjaminlear
Upstart is back at the Continental Room on Friday, October 2. If you are local, get your ass out there…you know it’s always a good time at the Conti.
The day is nearing to begin recording the next Upstart album. It’s quite exciting. Can’t wait to get back in the studio and work. I don’t remember having much of a clue about recording heading into the making of “Exhibition.” I will always love that record for what it was and the time it was made, but I think we’ve matured and will ultimately record a stronger album this time around. Alright…no pressure!
Thanks for reading. Until next time…
be well,
toe k

Toeknee’s New Album Finally Drops!
I’m pleased to say that the Toe Knee record, “Songs, Stories, Skies” is finally done. As tends to happen, it turned into a much longer journey than I anticipated to see these songs make it to this point. It started with an all-day session back in August of ’07, where Jarod Sheahan (keys) and Brad Babinski (bass) kicked some serious ass and laid down the skeleton for each of the songs. I came in the following day and laid down the drums, and thus the recording was off to a good start.Recording happened off and on over the next year, squeezing into the cracks of Tadashi’s busy studio schedule. It was a fun process, though, and I hope the result is an impactful listening experience for you.
The full album will hopefully be available for purchase online very soon. Until then, I hope you enjoy the tunes found here. Also, please keep an eye here and on www.toekneesongs.com from time to time for shows in the LA/Orange County area.
My new album can be found on CD Baby and iTunes. Links are below.
